‘Sustainable Fashion From Portugal’ is the name of ATP’s new project, presented at MODTISSIMO, by Ana Paula Dinis, executive director, which over the course of the next two years will promote Portuguese industry in foreign markets. With the motto ‘Fashion Industry’s New Chic’, ATP - the Portuguese textile and clothing association wants to affirm Portugal as a centre of innovation and excellence in responsible production and circular economy.
The project is part of the Fashion From Portugal actions, which over the last few years have been stimulating the Portuguese industry in international markets. This time, at the spotlight are sustainable textiles, with ATP focused on promoting the work done by Portuguese companies to reduce its ecological footprint. Digitization, waste reduction and the growing investment in recycled fibres are some actions that the association wants to showcase.
“The Portuguese textile and clothing industry is at the forefront of change in the fashion world. At this moment, we are witnessing a new era based on sustainability and technology”, explained ATP during the project’s presentation, made this Thursday morning, on MODTISSIMO’s second day.
With the ultimate goal of raising textile exports, ATP's action is aimed mainly at markets where sustainability is already in high demand by consumers. Traditionally, the countries of central and northern Europe are the ones that most value responsible production.
The Sustainable Fashion From Portugal: Fashion Industry New Chic project will take place over the course of two years and will have an estimated investment of around 740 thousand euros, having been co-financed by the European Structural and Investment Funds (FEEI), framed in the POCI (Operational Competitiveness and Internationalization Program), in Portugal 2020 and COMPETE 2020.
