“Sustainable Fashion From Portugal” is ATP - Portuguese Textile and Clothing Association most recent project, which promises to place the Portuguese Textile Industry at the forefront of sustainable fashion production. The initiative, debuted at MODTISSIMO, now makes its second presentation, on Friday, October 23, in Lisbon, with ideas and products with low environmental impact, within the scope of the Sustainable Fashion Business conference.
Showing how the Portuguese industry is at the forefront of sustainable textiles, already totally in line with the new environmental paradigm, is the main goal of ATP’s most recent project, entitled “Sustainable Fashion From Portugal”. Based on the motto “Fashion Industry’s New Chic”, the Portuguese Textile and Clothing Association promises to affirm Portugal as a centre of innovation and excellence in the areas of circular economy, Green Fashion and sustainable and responsible production. A growing trend, where Portugal has marked its position in the main international markets.
The Sustainable Fashion From Portugal Showcase displayed fabrics from the Portuguese companies Burel Factory, Lemar, LMA, RDD Textiles, Tintex and Troficolor, which together with a Creative Hub made up of Portuguese designers, artists and influencers, showed that it is possible to combine sustainability and fashion. The exhibition highlighted the multiple sides of the made in Portugal sustainable fashion, combining scientific research and new material development with contemporary design and the main fashion trends.
On display were fashion articles made with sustainable raw materials obtained through various processes, including fabrics made from lyocell (a biodegradable cellulose fibre), organic and recycled cotton, coatings made from cork waste, ecological fibre made from plastic removed from the oceans, and recycled PES (from plastic bottles).
